Motorola Xoom Jellybean 4.1.2 OTA (WiFi)

The latest OTA for the Motorola Xoom GED is here: http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/motorola_tervigon/75baa1719d30.signed-tervigon-JZO54K-from-JRO03H.75baa171.zip

Minus seems to have blocked uploads from non-image files so I can't post a minus mirror sadly.

It applies via OTG cable with stock recovery too as per honeycomb OTAs

Flashing the Xoom JB OTA

If you get an error manually flashing the Xoom JB OTA for GED WiFi then a solution has been found if you don't want to wait...

Note: This article assumes you have basic knowledge of fastboot and/or have already unlocked.

1. Download OTA and custom recovery

2. Unlock the bootloader (For more info look here: http://developer.motorola.com/products/software/)
- Turn off device
- Connect to laptop using USB cable
- Turn on and when the Motorola splash screen comes up press vol-down till you see FASTBOOT
- Run this command from pc/laptop:
- fastboot oem unlock

3. Flash custom recovery
- Boot into bootloader again with FASTBOOT displayed
- flash custom recovery using the following command from:
- fastboot flash recovery eos-recovery-r6.img

4. Install OTA
- Enter Recovery by powering on, press vol-down till RECOVERY is shown and then press vol-up to enter recovery
- You may need to press power+vol up to enter recovery * if you still appear to have stock repeat step 3.
- Select through the recovery menus, and find 'install from sdcard'
- Select the OTA .zip file from the sdcard and install.
- Reboot device
- Alternatively with the custom recovery you can store the OTA .zip  file on the internal storage on the Xoom and flash it that way without an sdcard or USB with OTG cable.

Custom recovery will be returned to stock on boot up.

S-Off the HTC Evo 3D GSM

I recently purchased a new phone - from Asda Direct - the HTC Evo 3D - for the price, £207, it was a bargain - decent spec phone still to today's standard, it is coming up to a year old soon, but still dual core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, removable MicroSD and removable battery.
It is slightly better spec than the HTC Sensation (more RAM, better graphics)...

oh and it has 3D!

Anyhow, there seems to be a lot of fuss over getting s-off with it and I just wanted to detail the way I did it...

The following two threads are probably the most useful:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495657

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535987

Check what hboot you have... I had 1.49.0018 - read the threads above - the process doesn't work with many versisons and also if it is SIM-free/unlocked handset (CID versions... mine was HTC__001)

The basics are:

1. You'll need to UNLOCK the bootloader (note: not s-off) using htcdev.com tools
2. Flash custom recovery using fastboot
3. Flash a pre-rooted rom (possibly flash a new boot.img)
4. Run the step1.exe tool (or copy over the mmcblk0p31 file to /system/dev/block)
5. Run the step2.exe tool to reflash a stock rom with lower hboot version
6. Run revolutionary.io tool to gain s-off

NetFlix US content

Saw an article hinting you can get NetFlix US content in the UK (or other countries) with a little tweak to DNS settings:

http://support.unblock-us.com/customer/portal/articles/291530

DNS1 - 208.122.23.22
DNS2 - 208.122.23.23

OLDDNS1 - 184.106.242.193
OLDDNS2 - 67.23.7.56

Thought it might be helpful to some people...

This doesn't work for me any longer but I heard this might:

HTC Desire Rooted + Gingerbread + Sense 3.0 + Apps2SD+ ROM + AdFree

Step-by-Step for what I did to root + install HTC Desire GingerBread ROM+Sense3.0 with Apps2SD+ and AdFree rom with access to HTCSense.com (original ROM from michaelm_007) - also included the link to the video tutorials.

00 - Watch the video tutorial so you know what you are doing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
    - Also make sure phone is fully charged

01 - Download the RUU
    - Download the latest RUU so you have something to return back to stock if rquired.
    - Latest non-branded FroYo is 2.29.405.5 - available here:
          http://www.4shared.com/file/uyR9BIyD/RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_229405.html
          http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869048

02 - Remove HTC Sync if Installed

03 - Download and install modified HTC drivers
    - Download driver from unrevoked website - available here:
      http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe

04 - Prepare phone for Rooting
    - Go to Settings -> Connect to PC -> untick 'Ask Me' if ticked, and set 'default connection type' to 'Charge only'
    - Go to Settings -> Applications -> Tick 'Unknown Sources' if not ticked
    - Go to Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Tick 'USB Debugging' if not ticked
    - Connect Phone to PC and allow drivers to install if required (skip windows update if it pops up)
    - Reboot phone while connected to PC, if possible enter boot loader (hold Vol-Down and power on) - allow drivers to install, then reboot phone again back into normal mode to allow drivers to install correctly (skipping windows update if it prompts)

05 - Download Revolutionary Tool
    - Download from http://revolutionary.io/
    - Generate a Beta key as per the website (you will need HBoot version and Serial)
    - You can get HBoot version from power on phone and holding Vol-Down
    - You can get serial from settings -> about phone -> phone identity -> device serial number
    - You can (probably) also get this information from connecting phone to PC via USB cable and running the revolutionary.exe (it should list these at the start and then ask for the Beta Key.

06 - Run Revolutionary tool
    - Connect phone to PC with USB cable and leave on Charge only.
    - Run Revolutionary software and follow instructions on screen (basically enter the Beta key and then hit ok and wait awhile)
    - This will start by running an exploit, s-off (unlock bootloader) the phone, then prompt to download a recovery image...

07 - Install custom recovery (Clockworkmod Recovery)
    - After the bootloader has been unlocked revolutionary should ask if you want recovery installed - say yes
    - This will go to the web and download a recovery image and flash it for you.
    - Optional: You can optionally install root to the current ROM on the phone by flashing this from clockwork recovery - http://goo-inside.me/superuser/su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip - covered in the next section.

08 - NANDroid Backup (optional)
    - You can turn off phone, vol down + power on, select recovery, then select backup and restore, and create a NAND backup of your current phone settings (this is saved to SD card in a folder called ClockworkRecovery)
    - This should allow you to restore back to current state, but I have found it caused a boot loop with my phone stuck at HTC logo so may be best to do this right before flashing a new ROM - at step 17)

09 - Backup your SD Card data to PC
    - Take all the data off the SD card that you want, pictures, music etc.

(Recommended way)
10 - Download gparted for Partiting SD
    - Some people claim you can partition within windows using tools like MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition, but it is always advised to use gparted
    - Download gparted and burn to CD from the ISO from here:
      http://www.4shared.com/file/lpZ-igPy/gparted-live-080-1.html
      or here:
      http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php

11 - Partitoning SD
    - Connect phone in USB Storage mode to laptop and boot to Gparted CD
    - In GParted accept all defaults
    - Ensure that the SD Card is set as the device (not your laptop/pc HD!)
( see this video for more details http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7V64S6cEkGw&feature=player_embedded)
    - Remove all partitions from SD card
    - Create a new FAT32 partition at the start of the SD Card - this MUST be the first partition on the SD card, but leave <2048MB of space at the end (recommended 1536MB, but 1024MB can be used, but NOT MORE than 2048MB)
    - Create a second partition for EXT3 with the remaining space.
    - Apply
    - Shut down gparted

(Alternative Way - from within Windows)
10 - Download and install MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition

11 - Remove all partitions from SD Card
    - Create a new FAT32 partition at the start of the SD Card - this MUST be the first partition on the SD card, but leave <2048MB of space at the end (recommended 1536MB, but 1024MB can be used, but NOT MORE than 2048MB)
    - Create a second partition for EXT3 with the remaining space.
    - Apply

12 - Download ROMs + extras
    - XDA's index of Roms is available here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
    - I currently recommend using the Desire HD port of Gingerbread 2.3.5 with Sense 3.0 (and also access to HTCSense.com and HTC Hub) :
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223996

13 - Download the ROM, Radio, RIL and EXT4 Alignment zips from the link above or here:
ROM : http://min.us/lABxLO9f0xtSW (Custom version - has removed HTC Stocks, Laputa and widgets etc. - get from above link if this custom doesn't work... and use the original before I tweaked it)
    RADIO : http://www.4shared.com/file/_9U9yON8/bravo5170523.html or http://download.oxygen.im/radios/bravo.5.17.05.23.zip
    RIL : http://www.4shared.com/file/tFhdHc5E/32560032U_5170523_RIL.html
    ALIGNMENT : http://www.kimithemes.net/Extra/Alignment_Cool_2.zip or http://min.us/lN14dzcOVAk44
    KERNEL : http://min.us/lxELD84HJWofo

14 - Copy ZIP's to SD
    - In USB Mass storage mode copy the 4 zip's to the root of SD card. Simples. (should be the only things on there.)

15 - Flash ZIPs
    - Boot phone into Clockwork Recovery (Vol down + Power on) (use vol up/down navigation to get to recovery, and then trackwheel as navigation when in clockwork recovery)
    - NAND backup (optional - see step 08)
    - install zip from sdcard
    - select zip
    - RADIO.zip
    - ... should say successfully installed on the text at the bottom when completed
    - install zip from sdcard again
    - select zip
    - RIL.zip
    - ... should say successfully installed on the text at the bottom when completed
    - reboot recovery

    - Wipe data/factory reset
    - wipe cache partition
    - advanced -> wipe dalvik cache
    - install zip from sdcard
    - select zip
    - ALIGNMENT.zip
    - ... should say successfully installed on the text at the bottom when completed
    - install zip from sdcard again
    - ROM.zip
    - ... should say successfully installed on the text at the bottom when completed
    - install zip from sdcard again
    - select zip
    - KERNEL.zip
    - ... should say successfully installed on the text at the bottom when completed
    - Reboot now

16 - WAIT while ROM adjusts itself
    - the ROM may hang on the HTC white screen for about 5-10 minutes (apparently can hang for 20 minutes sometimes) it will also restart around 3 times, while it sorts out the SD-EXT partition, and re-arranges itself on the phone
     - Go through the wizard to set up phone, and leave it on for 30 mins - 60 mins while re-downloading apps etc. and setting up phone as it may freeze/hang for a few seconds while it is still reconfiguring itself and settling down.

17 - You are done.  You can now restore your SD Card settings and set up your phone again. (note ADFree is installed and when opening will update the hosts and ask for superuser permissions to download+install hosts and block those pesky adverts)

Although I recommend downloading 'battery calibration' app from here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration

and running that through after a day or so to recalibrate the battery.

You can delete the zips from the SD card if you like.

NOTE:  You do not need to move Apps to the SD like previously (applications -> move to SD), the ROM has Apps2SD+ built in so the system will handle that on your behalf, applications should still display (on phone)

To check Apps2SD partition space install Quick System Info and check in the app: https://market.android.com/details?id=org.uguess.android.sysinfo
